Position Description

Serves as a member of the Naval Technologies Division, in direct support of the Company’s goals and objectives.  Supports a large, complex program that develops advanced technologies for shipbuilding and aircraft manufacturing.  Provides leadership for multi-organization research and development and technology transfer programs conducted for government and industry clients.  Manages client and partner relationships.  Develops new business opportunities with existing clients and partners.  Responsible for meeting or exceeding client expectations and growing new business with same clients or partners.

ATI's standard business hours are Monday-Friday 8 AM - 5 PM.

Our office is located at 315 Sigma Drive, Summerville, SC 29486. Flexible work hours may be available once fully trained.

Essential Duties

Oversight of technical and programmatic aspects of Division programs, including providing detailed information to Program Director and Government Program managers.

Proposes, participates in, develops and executes contract R&D projects and programs.

Provides collaborative leadership, facilitation and interface among supported customers, vendors and users.

Develops the measurements and analyses to integrate scope, costs, and schedule and assess performance.

Conducts program briefings to industry, academia and government.

Serves as primary point of contact for information regarding the acquisition and application of program technology.

Participates in program/project awards, kickoffs, reviews and debriefs.

Directs and manages initiatives specific to acquiring and evaluating technology for the business division.

Serves as project monitor for selected efforts by members of the program.

Coordinates with the Division Manager on initiatives, priorities and outreach activities.

Identifies and assists in targeting related opportunities and leveraging funds from other organizations.

Assists in development of technical and management business proposals.

Coordinates with Contracts & Procurement staff and Accounting & Finance Division on Cost Proposals.

Participates in Project Management Office training sessions.

Serves as liaison between Contracts staff and contracting/financial operations of designated programs.

Mentors divisional/program project managers, to include professional development and technical guidance

Additional Responsibilities

Assists with business development activities and other duties as needed.

Performs other duties as assigned.


PhD and two years’  applicable experience; or Master’s degree and six years applicable experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field and a minimum of eight years of experience in technology development programs.  An advanced degree is highly preferred.  A minimum of five years’ experience in engineering management.

A thorough understanding of manufacturing and related technologies with the ability to recognize areas of manufacturing need and evaluate potential solutions.

Specific experience in identifying technology needs and in technology transition/implementation strongly preferred. 

Experience in shipbuilding, process improvement and/or digital manufacturing a plus.

Experience in Department of Defense, and other government programs, desirable.

Independent, self-directed worker, team player, problem solver and experienced leader.

Excellent communication skills, including presentations, technical reports, meeting management and work group management.
